Danville – Joan Marie Knight, 83, of Danville passed away at 8:26 AM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at her home. She was born September 10, 1941 in Danville to Howard and Dovie (Clifton) Ervin. She first married Larry Cole, with which she had two daughters. She then married Dan Knight on November 2, 1991. He preceded her in death in 2011.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet Knight of Danville and Teresa (Jeff) Chaney of Westville; five grandchildren, Luke Knight, William Knight, Amanda (Tyler) Bennett, Jenna (Ryne Teston) Chaney, and Jeffrey Chaney; great-grandchildren, Aeris Knight, Brandon Bennett, and Ava Bennett; a brother, Larry Ervin and a dear, dear friend and former sister-in-law, Doneta “Dee” Sebastian; a sister, Carol (Joel) Love; former son-in-law Mark Knight; sisters-in-law Judy Ervin and Wanda Ervin; her best friend of over 40 years, Fran McNeese; and her beloved dog of 13 years, Murphy.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Ken and William Ervin.
Joan worked at Walgreen’s Accounting for 10 years, but her primary occupation was being a farmer’s wife and taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking and always made sure her grandchildren were fed. Family was so important to Joan she became the family photographer, capturing moments with her kids and grandkids. She also enjoyed flowers and watching the birds outside her home.
A service to celebrate the life of Joan Knight will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL, 61834. Pastor John Richardson will officiate. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held from 11 AM – 12 PM prior to the service on Saturday, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials in her name may be made to the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
