Joan F. Gondzur

Joan F. Gondzur, 84, of Westville, passed away at 7:30pm, Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at her home. She was born on October 5, 1924, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (MacDowell) Deknuydt. She was married to George J. Gondzur on June 18, 1949, at St. Procopius Church in Westville. He will miss her dearly. Others who will miss her include: her children, Gary (Judy) Gondzur of Houston, TX, Raymond (Donna) Gondzur of Louisville, KY, Nancy Gondzur of Madison, WI, Chris (Lisa) Gondzur of Westville, Jim (Pam) Gondzur of Louisville, KY, Madonna (Chris) Poggendorf of Westville, & Andrew (Anjanette) Gondzur of St. Louis, MO; her grandchildren, Geoffrey Gondzur, Mitch Gondzur, Matt Caston, Nick Gondzur, Lauren Gondzur, Aaron (Julie) Gondzur, Ryan (Ashley) Gondzur, Lynnse Gondzur, Bailee Poggendorf, Taylor Poggendorf, Alex Gondzur, Meredith Diddens, Jesse Gondzur, Claire Gondzur, & Benjamin Gondzur; her great grandchildren, Lydia & Lani Gondzur; and her sister, LaVonne (John) Hart of Westville. She was preceded in death by: her parents and a sister, Adeline Strako. Joan was a member of St. Marys Church in Westville. She was part of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Westville American Legion Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Merry Mrs. Card Club. Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting the Westville Library. She enjoyed playing Euchre with family & friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, May16, 2009, at St. Marys Church, 231 N State St, Westville, with Father John Paninski officiating. Visitation will be 3pm - 8pm, Friday, May 15, 2009, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, with a Rosary to be held at 2:30pm. She will be laid to rest in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Westville. Memorial donations may be given in Joans name to St. Marys School of Westville.
