Jim “Jumbo” Dale Gilliland, 89, of Panama City, FL formerly of Danville, IL passed away at HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City, FL on February 26, 2026 at 4:58 PM.
Jim was born on October 3, 1936 the son of James Arthur and Minda Marie (Mourer) Gilliland in Danville, IL. He married Marjorie Ann Miller on October 30, 1955 and she preceded him in death on January 21, 2022.
Jim is survived by his children, Phillip (Rita) Gilliland of Vincent, AL and Penny Blair of Panama City, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marjorie Gilliland, one son-in-law, Andrew “Mokey” Blair, his brothers, Edward, Curt and Cloyd Gilliland, and his sisters, Jean Gilliland and Jerry Sue Sherman.
Jim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Danville, the Kickapoo Karvers, Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #38 for over 50 years, the Gao Grotto, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Danville. He was a retired Tool and Die Maker and enjoyed spending his free time fishing and woodcarving.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Reverend Macy Ruple will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, IL. Visitation will be held from 4-6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Jim’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
