Jetta Elkin, 89, of Danville, passed away at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 15, 2012 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Jetta was born on May 21, 1923 in Ary, Kentucky, the daughter of George and Alma (Edwards) Smith. She married James W. Elkin on January 9, 1946 in Kentucky. James preceded her in death on April 20, 2012. She is survived by one son- Warren (Dessie) Elkin of Danville, two daughters- Kathy (Gup) Kramer of Champaign and Karen Parker of Tilton, two brothers- Paul David Smith of Winchester, KY, Charles Robert Smith of Irvin, KY, one sister- June May Ford of Winchester, KY, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five siblings and one great grandson. Jetta graduated from Berea College High School in 1941. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Jetta treated everyone like family, being a mother to many people outside of the family. She became the matriarch of the family with her strong faith and great cooking. She also liked to sew and read. Jetta LOVED her grandchildren, they were always on her mind. She was a member of the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses where she was baptized in 1955. A memorial service will be held for Jetta on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Danville with Fred Kelm officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 PM Friday prior to the service at the Kingdom Hall. Memorials can be made in Jetta's name to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 619 E.
