Jesse 'Jr' Smith

Danville - Jesse R. “JR” Smith, 64, of Danville passed away at 9:15 PM on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman. He was born on August 3, 1950 in Exeter, VA to Jess F. and Mary (Wynn) Smith. He married Vickie Smith on August 11, 1990 in Danville. She survives. Also surviving are seven children, Tracey Smith of Woodside, NY, Jessee Smith of Appalachia, VA, Bryan K. Smith of Georgetown, IL, Gina K. Smith of Appalachia, VA, Sean (Kailyn) Smith of Rolla, MO, Jerid Smith of Danville, and Stacy Tomlinson of Iowa; four brothers, Darmon Lee Smith, Clyde Smith, Carl (Glenda) Smith, and Denny Smith, all of Danville; a sister, Genise Humbert of Appalachia, VA; 11 grandchildren, Christopher and Chase Morelock, Joe Neal Smith, Jessica Smith, Kaylie Smith, Hanna Smith, Brody, Garrett, and Seth Tomlinson, Braylon Smith, and Elisa Collins Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Coy Smith; and three sisters, Naomi Maggart, Mary Ann Smith, and Rachael Smith. Jess had worked as a diesel mechanic for many years until his retirement. He was a man of many talents and enjoyed gardening, mechanics, carpentry work, and plumbing. He loved music, especially Gospel and Country, and liked playing guitar and singing for his friends, family, nursing homes, and Legions. Anyone who knew Jess would tell you he was a kind and loving man, and would help anyone in need. Most of all, Jess loved God and his family, and liked to spend time with his grandchildren and friends. A service to celebrate the life of Jesse “JR” Smith will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Raymie Gordon will officiate. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service on Thursday.
