JERRY "SHORTS" WAYNE SHUMAN JR. Jerry "Shorts" Wayne Shuman Jr., 46, of Covington, passed away at 4:40 p.m. e.s.t. Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 at his home. Jerry was born on February 15, 1966, in Danville, the son of Jerry Wayne and Mary Ann (Powell) Shuman Sr. He married Linda D. French on November 13th, 1984, in Covington, Indiana. She survives. He is also survived by his parents- Jerry and Mary Shuman Sr. of Covington; daughter- Jenifer Shuman of Covington; son- Jerry Wayne (Shayla) Shuman III of Covington; sister- Roni S. (Darren) Taylor of Covington; two grandchildren- Laban and Lynix Shuman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents- William and Helen Shuman and Walter and Pearl Powell, five uncles- Bob Shuman, Donald Powell, Robert Powell, Junior David Powell and David Lappin; and cousin- Austin Shuman. Jerry graduated from Covington High School in 1984. He served in the United States Army, from 1984 to 1991, as a First Class Sergeant during Desert Storm. He worked at Thyssen Krupp in Veedersburg for 13 years, as a Maintenance Supervisor. Jerry attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with Heath Berglan and playing with his grandchildren. A Celebration of the Life of Jerry "Shorts" Wayne Shuman Jr. 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 at Sunset's Covington Chapel, with Pastor Steve Nelson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Hope Cemetery, with full military rites. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Riley's Childrens Hospital or Shriners Children's Hospital.
