Jerry Thomas Ransom, 86, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 3:43am at Gardenview Manor, Danville, IL. He was born on June 13, 1936, in Danville, IL, the son of Durbin and Wilma {McNeese} Ransom. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Marcia Sue Pound, on June 30, 1957, in Danville, IL. Soon after their wedding, Jerry was drafted by the US Army and was stationed in Korea. Upon his return, they bought an old family farm in Georgetown, and began raising a family. He worked for over three decades at South Danville T.V. & Appliances and installed most appliances and TV antenna towers all over Central Illinois. Hardly a day went by without someone recognizing and thanking him for the wonderful job he did for them over the years. Jerry loved mushroom hunting and tending to his home and huge yard, but he really enjoyed Native American archaeology and searching for artifacts in fields around Illinois/Indiana area for well over fifty years with his lifelong friend, John Henry. He donated his entire collection to the University of Illinois 2010. He took great pride in knowing that they will be preserved and available for study by future generations of students and researchers. Jerry had a witty sense of humor, loved to laugh, and spending time swapping stories with his fellow Veterans over coffee most mornings. Above all, he was a wonderful dad who loved his family. He is survived by: his son, Brian Ransom; his grandchildren, Laci Ransom & Brooke Ransom; his nephew, Greg (Diane) Jensen; and his nieces, Brenda (Jeff) Bartnicki & Sheila Jensen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcia; his son, Richard Ransom; his sisters, Peggy Bright & Venita Jensen; his brother-in-law, Robert Jensen; and his nephew, Paul Bright. A celebration of Jerrys life will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E.
