Jerry P. Hathaway

Oakwood Jerry P. Hathaway, 76, of Oakwood, passed away at 5:26 AM on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born October 14, 1947 in Danville to Frank and Vergie (Sprouls) Hathaway. He married Penny L. Combs on July 4, 2001 in Oakwood. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Heather (Justin Lenfesty) Aquino of Oakwood, Kyle Hathaway of Danville, and Pastor Chad (Penny) Combs of Iowa; three grandchildren, Norah and Odin Aquino and Bryce Ellis; brother, James (Jeanne) Hathaway; and sisters in law, Debbie Goble and Vickie Combs.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1968-71. He also later served the City of Danville as a Police Officer until his retirement. Jerry enjoyed fishing and could usually be found working on a project in his garage. He would often build things for his grandchildren, including an entire outdoor playhouse.

Jerrys family would like to extend a special thank you to the 9th floor nursing staff at Carle Foundation hospital for their amazing care during his stay.

A service to celebrate the life of Jerry P. Hathaway will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post #210. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service on Friday, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials in Jerrys name may be made to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.
