Jerry O. Weir

Cayuga, Ind. -- Jerry O. Weir, 73, of Cayuga, passed away at 8:45 p.m. EDT Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru, Indiana. He was born February 25, 1937 in Cayuga, Indiana, the son of the late Milton O. and Harriett L. Jewell Weir. He married Mary Ellen Brooks on July 22, 1956 in Georgetown, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Rick(Tammy)Weir of Cayuga, Indiana; Mark Weir of Lafayette, Indiana and Eric(Lisa)Weir of Cerro Gordo, Illinois; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; step brother, Hamilton Smith of Texas. Jerry retired from Hyster's in Danville, Illinois in 1981. He was also a former Cayuga Town Marshal. He was a member of the Cayuga Christian Church and a 1956 graduate of Cayuga High School. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and genealogy and was a former Scout Master for many years. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 11 a.m. EDT Friday, June 25, 2010 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Dr. Andy Spencer; Burial of cremains will be at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana at a later date; Visitation: 10 a.m. EDT Friday, June 25, 2010 until time of services at the funeral home.
