Jerry Elliott passed away surrounded by his family on May 29, 2018. He was born in Danville, Illinois on November 26, 1944 to Otis Loren Elliott and Helen (Evans) Elliott. Jerry graduated from Danville High School in 1963 and began his career in Sheet Metal for Local 218. After 42 years of service he retired in 2005. He married the love of his life, Cheri Darline Yanko, on May 19, 1965. Jerry was a loving family man, enjoying many long happy hours supporting his children at various sporting events. He also coached Oakwood Youth Football. Jerry was passionate about cars and engines. He owned more than 55 vehicles not including go-carts, motorcycles, snowmobiles, wave runners and boats. He enjoyed drag racing and snow mobile racing as well as teaching his sons, daughter and wife about cars. He was always "out in the garage" with another project. Jerry served as a past Master of Potomac Lodge 782 and past monarch of GAO Grotto. As a lifetime Grotto member, he held many offices. While camping, boating and volunteering his time there he made many lifelong friends. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cheri; their 3 children, daughter Tami Elliott of Oakwood, sons Bryan (Shelley) Elliott of Fithian, Casey (Sarah) Elliott of Danville; a brother Loren Otis Elliott of Danville; seven grandchildren Logan (Kari) Elliott, Leighton Elliott, Lauryn Elliott, Angela Elliott, Justin Shaw, Aria Elliott and Ally Elliott; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Elliott and Donald Elliott. Visitation for Jerry will be held on Saturday June 2, 2018 from 12pm to 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion, Danville. Masonic service will be held at 1:50pm on Saturday. His family would like to give a special thanks to Harbor Lights Hospice for all their special care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to GAO Grotto Humanitarian Fund.
