Jerry L. Townsend, 60, of Covington, Indiana, passed away at 10:02 a.m. EDT Monday (October 9, 2006) at the I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born May 3, 1946, in Danville, Illinois, the son of the late Robert E. and Mary A. Salts Townsend. He was first married to Constant I. Williams. He later married Linda L. Graves on August 2, 1969 in Sidell, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include his children: Robert(Lori Goodwin)Townsend, Chad(Kelly Burnhert)Townsend, Jeremy Jason(Amy Moudy)Townsend and Noah(Keri Curtrell)Townsend all of Covington, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; Tricia Bush, Amanda Cook, Brad Cook, Jessie Wilson, Kali Townsend, Nick McCalister, Blake McCalister, Brennon Cole Townsend, Kobe Alan Townsend, Keragan Reece Townsend and Kennady Faith Townsend; 6 sisters, Joyce McDonald of Williamsport, Indiana; Janice(Lavon)Stahl and Alys French both of Veedersburg, Indiana; Sandra(Gerald)Lawhorn of Danville, Illinois; Lois(Paul)Boswell of Tilton, Illinois and Peggy(Ralph)Hancock of Westville, Illinois; 2 brothers, Robert Townsend of Danville, Illinois and Richard J.(Denise)Townsend of Georgetown, Illinois; Sister in Law, Mr. & Mrs. Brad Myrick; 2 Brother in Laws, Mr. & Mrs. Dean Graves and Steve Graves; Special Niece, Kim McKinney; 2 special nephews, Dean"Little"Graves and Aaron"Bigun"Graves. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Roberta Powell, Bertha Jean Cadman, Patricia Lape and Jacqueline Clawson; 3 brothers, James Townsend, Bill Townsend and Fred Townsend; Nephew, Kevin Powell. Jerry retired in 1999 from the V.A. Illiniana Health Care System in Danville, Illinois. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and United States Army Reserve. He was a member of the Stringtown Church of God, Past President of the Veterans Administration A.F.G.E. Local #1963, Danville Masonic Lodge, Stringtown Bandits and the Midwestern Pikers Fishing Club. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, auto racing,motorcycles, sky diving and instructing. He was also a former coach in the Covington area. He especially enjoyed his 2 dogs, Precious and Princess. Funeral services: 5 p.m. EDT Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Stringtown Church of God south of Covington, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Paul Kirby; Burial: Kingman Fraternal Cemetery in Kingman, Indiana; Visitation: Thursday, October 12, 2006 from 3 p.m. EDT till time of services at the church.
