Jerry L. Grimes

Danville - Jerry L. Grimes, 71, of Danville, IL passed away at 12:50 PM on October 25, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Jerry was born on July 14, 1947, the son of Henry and Blanche (Smith) Maggio in Danville, IL. He married Susan Jane Jarrett on July 20, 1968 in Danville, IL and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife, Susan of Danville; two sons, Chad Grimes of Palatine, IL and Ryan (Kyleigh) Grimes of Edwardsville, IL; one daughter, Amber (Jacob) Tutwiler of Danville and two grandchildren, Ethan Leonard Tutwiler and Ella Jane Tutwiler of Danville, as well as a host of special friends. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Blanche Maggio. Jerry was a diver, serving his country in the United States Navy, and later served in the Naval Reserves. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Illinois University. Jerry was a firefighter with the Danville Fire Department, with 22 years of service to his community. After his retirement from the Danville Fire Department, Jerry worked at Bud's Cellular, Kirchner Building Center and H&R Block. Jerry was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church. He enjoyed taking vacations and traveling with his wife and family. He especially loved golfing and spending time with his family and friends. When his children were young, he coached a variety of his children's sports. Papaw Jerry loved taking his grandson, Ethan, to the movies and playing board games with his granddaughter, Ella. A Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials in Jerry's memory may be made to the American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard.
