Jerry Holycross, 92, of Perrysville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at The Waters of Covington in Covington, Indiana.
He was born on July 5, 1931, in Vermilion County, Illinois, son of the late Kleemon and Nancy (Swank) Holycross.
Jerry married Reva Young on November 5, 1955, in Danville, Illinois, and she preceded him in death in September of 2020.
Surviving are his daughters: Jerilynn (Bill) Billings of Danville, IL., and Julie (Chuck) Hines of Perrysville, IN; his son: Jay (Rene) Holycross; two sisters: Mary Lou Allen, and Margaret Steffy; two brothers: Dean Holycross, and Donald Holycross; grandchildren: Kylee (Brian) Fischer, Boone (Kara) Billings, Aliah Hines, Mariah Hines, and Madeline Watwood; his great-grandchildren: Zaidan and Brexton Eblin; Liam, Sawyer, Crosby, Archie and Ruby Billings; and a special friend, Maryetta Mayfield.
Along with his wife, Jerry was preceded in death by an infant son, one sister and two brothers.
Jerry served his country faithfully and honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later went on to work as a superintendent for Lauhoff/Bunge for 33 years before retiring. Jerry enjoyed volunteering his time at the Vermilion County War Museum and sharing stories of his time in the service with visitors. When not at the museum, you could find Jerry tending to the farm, mowing the lawn, or kicked back watching racing on the television. Above all, Jerry loved the time he spent with his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Jerry will be held at 10AM Tuesday, June 11, 2024, with Gary Johnson officiating at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street in Danville. Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9AM-10AM at the funeral home in Danville.
Memorial donations in Jerrys name may be made to the Vermilion County War Museum 307 N Vermilion Street Danville, IL 61832.
