Bismarck - On April 3, 2021, Jerry Hill, beloved husband, father of two, grandfather of 8, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Jerry was born on September 27, 1942 in Danville, IL to Joseph and Frances Hill.
A gregarious young man, he acquired lifetime friends growing up in Vermilion Heights and graduating from Danville High School. In the Army, he served his country in the Vietnam war from 1964 to 1966.
Jerry married Diana Povelones (daughter of Kasey and Josephine Povelones) on June 10, 1967.
After welcoming their two children, Daniel (1969) and Karen (1974), Jerry worked for CSX railroad for 23 years. Since retirement, Jerry and Diana have enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing cards and sharing burgers and beers. Jerry loved hosting by cooking one of his tried & true recipes. He especially liked his "morning coffees" daily with fellow retiree buddies and swapping stories at the American Legion.
Friends and family will remember Jerry for his playful joking & banter. He thrived on making others laugh and smile; though he was rarely without a laugh and a smile himself. His interactions with friends and even strangers often uplifted all parties.
Jerry is survived by his wife: Diana Hill of Danville, IL, two children: Daniel (Baylee) Hill of Corona Del Mar, CA, and Karen (Jason) Morgan of Thomasboro, IL, 7 grandchildren: Madison Hill of Austin, TX, Ryann Hill of Chicago IL, Jacob Hill of Huntington Beach, CA, Emme Hill of Huntington Beach, CA, Reece Morgan of Thomasboro, IL, Harper Morgan of Thomasboro, IL, Deacon Morgan of Thomasboro, IL and a "TBA baby" Hill of Corona Del Mar, CA.
Jerry is preceded in death by parents and a baby brother.
A Memorial Mass Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 10th at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1303 Walnut St., Danville, IL 61832. Father Bo Schmitt will officiate. The interment of ashes will follow services at Resurrection Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard. After the committal services, family and friends will gather at Turtle Run Golf Clubs covered patio to share memories. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the visitation or services wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Memorials may be made to St Pauls Catholic Church or American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard.
