Jerome 'Jerry' Paul Holmes

Danville - Jerome "Jerry" Paul Holmes, 77, of Danville, IL passed away at 1:55 AM on June 4, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. "Jerry" was born on August 6, 1940 the son of Wallace and Jean Ann (Cunningham) Holmes in Danville, IL. He married Bonnie Lou Drews on April 30, 1965 In Danville, IL and she survives. Survivors include his wife; Bonnie, one son; Marc (Andrea King) Holmes of Danville, IL, two daughters; Sher (Glen) Dixon of St Joseph, IL and Tiffany (Jeff) Hilligoss of Monticello, MN, one brother; Craig (Theresa Leal-Holmes) Holmes of Tucson, AZ, as well as six grandchildren; Coy, Brady, Serrenity, Lauren, Drew and Madison, several nieces and nephews as well as many close friends. "Jerry" is preceded in death by his parents. "Jerry" was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 210 and the Fairmount Conservation Club. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years aboard the USS Essex. "Jerry" retired from Morris-Flamingo in 2003 where he worked in the Sales Department for over 34 years. In his freetime, he enjoyed fishing, hiking, kayaking, riding bicycle and yardwork. "Jerry" also loved to dance and had his own little world of dance steps. He was an avid basketball, football and UFC fan and enjoyed watching The Three Stooges on TV. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Pastor Kent Tibben will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 PM on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the funeral home.
