Danville - Jean Wendell Chesnut of Danville, and formerly of Rossville, died on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Hawthorne Inn. He was born July 8, 1916 in Dundas, Illinois, the son of Elzie and Ina Chesnut. He was married December 18, 1937 to Eva Cross who preceded him in death on July 22, 2011. Jean was a Vermilion County Farmer all of his life. He was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church, having served as an elder and serving on the Session 15 years. He was also a member and former Master of the Hoopeston Star Lodge 709 and a 32nd degree Mason. Surviving are a son, Marion (Rita) of Rossville, and a daughter Pamela (Chris) Nelson of Auburn, CA. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Tara (Dave) McGraw of Lexington, IL, grandson, Brian Nelson of California, and two great-grandchildren, Brandon of Chicago and Rachel of Lexington, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandson, Todd Chesnut, five brothers, and one sister. A service to celebrate the life of Jean Chesnut will be held at 10 AM on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Morris Chesnut will officiate. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, March 23, also at Sunset in Danville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Rossville.
