Jean Ann Bates Martin

Jean Ann Bates Martin, 63, was greeted by our Holy Father in Heaven, on July 10, 2024, at her home in Danville. She was born February 25, 1961, to Robert and Patricia (Dowers) Gordon. She attended Georgetown High School and graduated with the Class of 1979.

Jeans dreams came true when she opened her own restaurant in Georgetown, which she proudly named Break n Bread. Though she eventually had to close the restaurant, her love for serving others didnt end. She was constantly helping people and her love for life was infectious. She knew people wherever she went. She enjoyed being out in nature, especially if it meant sunbathing next to the pool or swimming. She was a devoted member of The Vineyard Church.

Jean is preceded in death by her father, Robert, and her uncle, Jack Dowers. She is survived by her husband, Robert Bates Martin; her mother, Patricia Gordon; and children, Brandon (Rachael) Bates, Brock (Sarah) Bates, Olivia Faith Martin, Leslie Grace Martin, and Hunter Josiah Martin. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Lily, Peyton, Claire, Madelyn, and Scarlett Bates; siblings Larry (Kerry) Dowers and his son Mathew, and Billy (Edith) Dowers and their children; Omeika Williams, Billy Jo Dowers and Robert Dowers; her aunt Edna "Sis" (Ronnie) Brink; cousins Tammy, Kim, Benji, and Doug; and good friends Lisa Crow, Jeff English, Kim Petticrew, and Dorothy Carlock.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Homes Houghton- Leasure Chapel, located at 200 E. West Street in Georgetown. A funeral service celebrating Jeans life will follow at 7 pm at the funeral home. Online condolences and fond memories can be shared with her family on her Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
