Jay E. Smith

Oakwood – Jay E. Smith, 62, of Oakwood, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 12:39 PM at OSF Sacred Heart in Danville. He was born January 19, 1963 in Danville to Gary L. and Donna D. Smith. He married Crystal (Goble) on April 22, 2022 in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are five daughters, Angela (John) Murphy of Hoopeston, Heather (Brian) Dean of Defiance, OH, Brittany Hopkins of Penfield, IL, Brooke Taylor of Danville, and Cara Smith of Danville; twelve grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine (Chris) Kinney and Gayle (Jim) Marett; and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jay loved dirt track car racing, mostly with late model cars. He also enjoyed animals of all kinds, camping, fishing, and generally spending time outdoors.

Per Jay’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. Cremation has been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jay’s name may be made to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
