Jay D. Crose, 89, of Hammond, IN and formerly of Danville passed away on May 28, 2007 at his residence in Hammond, Indiana. Jay was born August 21, 1917 in Danville. He married Mary Rusk in September of 1953 in Hammond, IN. She preceded him in 1997. Survivors include two daughters: Sue (Bobby Ray) Davis and Leila M. Tinder both of Danville. Nine grandchildren: Elizabeth Owen of Champaign, William (Karin) Gerety of St. Helens, OR, Jennifer (Lee) Delp of Danville, Gerald Reese of Danville, Terrie Elderidge of Danville, Sherrie (Steve) Griffith of Danville, Dawn (Roger) Moore of Danville, Tammy (John) Clark of Kingman, IN, and Tina Elrod; and several great grandchildren. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, son Jerald Lee Lyons, and nine brothers. Jay was a graduate of Danville High School immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in WWII in the Big Red One Infantry Unit on the beaches of Normandy receiving a bronze star, three battle stars, and a code of conduct medal before later becoming a cook. He was a member of the VFW and DAV in Danville. He volunteered at both and fed the needy on a normal basis. A Celebration of Jays Life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL with Pastor Jay Sorrell officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday evening at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Honors preformed by VFW Post #728.
