Jason Alan Sager, 50, of Covington, passed away unexpectedly, May 13, 2023, at his home. He was born on September 17, 1972, in Roseau, MN, the son of Larry and Ruth {Belser} Sager. He graduated from Brookfield High School in Brookfield, MO, in 1991. He attended Danville Area Community College and Vincennes University. He lived in Colorado for a number of years and completed training for an HVAC certification. Jason eventually moved back to Indiana and married Stephanie Ehlenfeld on September 9, 2006. They would have celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary this year. Jason loved spending time outdoors and barefooted whenever possible. His true passions in life were music, camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. Jason proudly served his community by assisting the Covington Police Department and then as the Jail Commander at the new Fountain County Jail in Veedersburg, Indiana. One of Jasons greatest accomplishments in life was being a father to Katelyn, Cole, and Josey. He treasured his relationship with all three children and had a profound love for each one of them. He always kept his family at the center of his heart and was happiest spending time with them and his dear friends. Jason was a man of honesty and integrity, he was loved and respected by all that knew him. His friends and family always looked forward to seeing him and listening to his stories and insights. He brightened and enriched the lives of those around him. He will be greatly missed and frequently remembered. Jason is survived by his wife, Stephanie Marie; one daughter, Katelyn (Evan) McLain Wright; his two sons, Cole McLain and Josey Ellis Wales Sager; one granddaughter, Parker Kay Wright; his parents, Ruth and Larry Sager, all of Covington, IN; his sister, Stephanie Ann (Brian) Brockman, Brookfield, MO; his in-laws, Bob & Diane Mendenhall, Dana, IN; his sister-in-law, Jamie Ehlenfeld, Covington, IN; his brothers-in-law, Michael Mendenhall, Valdosta, GA, Ryan Mendenhall of Tokyo, Japan, and Doug Ehlenfeld of Tucson, AZ; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Karl Sr. and Opal Belser, Cayuga; his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Goyita Sager, Brookfield, MO (formerly of Covington, IN); and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of Jasons life will be held at 8:00pm, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 518 5th Street, Covington, IN 47932 with Ryan Sowers officiating. An Active-Duty flag ceremony will be held at 4:00pm with Visitation from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Church on Thursday prior to his service. Memorial donations may be given in his name to the donors choice of charity. His family has entrusted his arrangements to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932.
