Janny Quinn Travers

Champaign - Janny Quinn Travers died unexpectedly on Sunday October 9, 2016. She was born on December 14, 1938 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Peter and Agnes Christensen Quinn. She married Kenneth Travers on August 22, 1964 in Bloomington, IL. He survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Stacey (Michael) Roux of Savoy, Wendy (Andy) Chao of Eden Prairie, MN, and Kelly (Rocco) Sansone of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Terry Quinn of Heyworth, IL and Robert LaMonte Quinn of Danvers, IL; and seven grandchildren, Alex, Erin, and Matthew Roux, Max, Nicholas, and Adam Chao, and Quinn Sansone. Janny was committed to varieties of service to church and community. For two summers she was a college student staffer at the American Baptist National Assembly in Green Lake, WI. She also was active locally in such groups as Mothers Morning Out and Children's Reading Corner at the Wesley Food Pantry. Janny had a lifelong love of learning that led to a variety of opportunities beginning with teaching high school English in Eureka, IL and Long Island, NY and culminating with teaching English as a Second Language to Saudi Arabian women in Washington, DC. Janny studied extensively and obtained several advanced degrees including two at the University of Illinois: an EdD in Adult and Continuing Education, and a Master in Educational Psychology. She also was awarded a Master of Divinity from the Chicago Theological Seminary. Janny loved to read and had a house full of books. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Ken and they took many trips together both in North America and abroad. As recently as two weeks ago she was considering a return trip to Alaska and The Yukon. Janny enjoyed her association with women's groups in her church and attended many musical and theater productions in the Champaign -Urbana community. A service to celebrate the life of Janny Travers will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Wesley Methodist Church in Urbana. Reception with light fare to follow service. Pastor Dan King Crede will officiate. Private Inurment will be at the Wesley Methodist Church Columbarium. Memorials in her name may be made to Children's Hospital, St. Louis (stlouischildrens.org ), One Great Hour of Sharing (onegreathourofsharing.org) or the University of Illinois Foundation (uif.uillinois.edu).
