Janice Seigler

Janice Kay Seigler, 78, of Urbana, died at 4:30 PM on 1 March at the University Rehabilition Center, Urbana.

Janice, the daughter of Charles Frederick and Alta Lee (Vaughn) Cline was born on 1 January 1943 at Sedgwick, Harvey Co., Kansas. She married David S. Seigler at Weatherford, Oklahoma, on 20 January 1961.

Survivors include the husband David of Urbana, and two daughters, Dava Kay (Dennis) Ramsey of Ivesdale, Illinois, Rebecca Joy (Gregory) Bougher of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and five grandchildren Jada Carson, Ryan Musgrove, Jordan Carson, Alexa Musgrove, and Morgan Bougher, and three great-grandsons, Emrey, Rowan, and Avrel.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother R. L. and a sister Mary Ellen.

She graduated from Weatherford High School, Weatherford, Oklahoma, and attended the University of Oklahoma, Norman. We were both quite young and in a sense, both grew up together.

She and David lived in Weatherford and Norman, Oklahoma, until he graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1967. They then lived in Peoria, Illinois, and in Austin, Texas, until 1970, when they moved to Urbana, Illinois. Although living in Urbana for most of the years since, the family also lived six months in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for six months of 1976, in Davis, California, for several periods including almost one year in 1979. Janice accompanied David in Muenster and Hamburg, Germany, for several months in the 1990s and 2000s.

About 1980 Janice attended Parkland College, Champaign, Illinois, and took accounting courses. She became a bookkeeper for the Champaign Assembly of God Church for several years. She was later employed by two local delivery and manufacturing companies. In the 1990s she operated the Santa Claus and Easter Bunny programs for three years at Market Place Mall. Janice was a Girl Scout leader, a consistent blood donor, was an election judge during this period. She was a volunteer at Provena Hospital for several months.

We first attended the Lincoln Avenue Church of Christ until 1975 and later the Urbana Assembly of God Church. Janice and David were original members of the Meadowbrook Community Church and Janice was often involved in church activities. She was elected a member of the Board of Deaconesses during 1984-1985.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Janice undertook the duties of a grandmother. These were accepted in an enthusiastic and loving way that has had a long term affect on each of the grandchildren. In 1997, she took four grandchildren and drove to the New York Botanical Garden. With David the family group were tourists in New York City for almost one week. The grandchildren still enthusiastically remember this adventure. She frequently hosted them and their friends and played a major role in their early years.

Janice was well known for her cooking abilities and often prepared meals for the family as well as for a series of guests. After she completed the Mexican cooking class at the Urbana High School, she was asked if she would consider teaching it in the future. She was outgoing and always willing to share with friends. Her cheerful laugh is often recounted by most of the people she knew.

About 2006, Janice began to have memory problems and later was diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease. She remained at home until 2015 and spent the remaining years in nursing homes. She will be greatly missed by her family and others, but we look forward to reunion with her in the future.
