Janice 'Jan' M. Keerns

Janice Jan Marie Keerns, 63, of Danville, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Hospice House in Bradenton, Florida, after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Jan was born on July 3, 1946 in Danville, the daughter of Lela G. Pearson. She was a Danville resident her entire life. Jan married Manford Milton Keerns on March 19, 1966 in Danville. After 41 years together, Manford preceded her in death on April 22, 2007. Jan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law- Kelley and Joseph Bott and grandsons- Chandler and Austin Bott, all of Bloomington, Illinois. Other survivors include her two brothers- Tom (Dorothy) Pearson of Tilton and Jerry (Donna) Pearson of Catlin; sister-in-law- Kay Harris of Bradenton, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and husband. Jan graduated from Danville High School in 1964 and from St. Marys of the Woods College in 1984. She was employed by Hyster Company for 20 years, until she retired at the age of 43. She was very active and engaged in life during all of her 63 years. In her earlier years, she played softball, racquetball and bowled regularly. As she fell in love with golf in her 40s, she became a regular at Harrison Park Golf Course where she went to golf, work and be with her friends. In the winters over the last 20 years, she could be found in the Bradenton/Palmetto, Florida area, which allowed her to continue her love of golf year-round. A Celebration of the life of Janice Jan Marie Keerns will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
