Janet Ross

Jan Ross Danville- Janet R. Ross, 72, of Danville passed away last Friday (July 3, 2009) as the result of a car accident. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jans life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville. Norm Hanson, a pastor and long-time friend of Jans, will officiate. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. preceding the service at Sunset Funeral Home. Janet Roberta Vinson was born April 17, 1937 in Aurora, Illinois to James C. and Eleanor June Laurie Vinson. She married Gary Duane Ross of Berwyn, Illinois on January 4, 1958. Gary and Jan had two daughters, Lori Lynn and Linda Lee. Jans husband, Gary, survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Lori Ross Hensold, of Danville, and her husband Jim and six children, Jesse and his wife Melanie and son Carson of Minneapolis, Andy and his wife Natasha and daughter Addisen of Danville, David, Rachel, Grace and Joy; her son-in-law Mike Leverenz and children, Russell and Megan. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Vinson; and her daughter, Linda Leverenz. Family was very important to Jan, so her primary occupation was always Homemaker. Outside of the home, she served as PTA President, Girl Scout Leader, and was an active part of the Rock Church. She was involved in ministry to younger women and as a small group counselor for new Christians. Many in the church will remember Jans involvement as wedding coordinator and kitchen manager and her pursuit of excellence at every event. Jan enjoyed sewing, making many of her own gowns for events she attended. She was proud of her home and decorated it beautifully. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember the unique cakes she decorated for their birthdays, graduations and weddings. She and Gary enjoyed spending time in Georgia and Florida on their boat along with their two Yorkies, Corky and Lacey. A joy of Jans life was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In lieu of memorials, the family requests those desiring to honor Jan do so by spending some extra time with their families.
