James T. Schmelzle

James T. Schmelzle (Jim), 73, of Rantoul, passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on April 23, 1952, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of William and Doris Schmelzle.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne M. Schmelzle, daughter, Valerie (Jeremy) Paceley, and grandchildren, Stephen, Madison, and Logan Paceley.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Jim honorably served for 23 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Throughout his military career, he received numerous awards and medals, recognizing his dedication and bravery. After retiring from the military, he continued to serve the public as an inspector for the Village of Rantoul for 20 years.

Jim was known for his truly kind personality and a sincere passion for supporting those around him. He found joy in a variety of hobbies, including woodworking, fishing, and boating. Additionally, nothing brought him more happiness than spending quality time with his grandchildren.

A visitation to honor Jim will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Lux Chapel, 1551 E Grove Ave, Rantoul, IL 61866. Burial will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in Rantoul.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and kindness that will be remembered by all who knew him.
