James Sandman Ransom Lewis, 90, of Danville, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. James was born on march 10, 1916 in Danville, the son of Ransom Henry and Violet Princess (DeMude) Lewis. He married Agnes Irene Lewis on September 6, 1952 at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. She preceded him in death on March 26, 2006. He is survived by one niece- Beth Rennels of Morrison, CO; one nephew- Doug Rennels of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister-in-law- Ruth (Edward) Rennels of San Antonio, Texas; one very close friends- Mel (Jill) Price of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife- Agnes Irene Lewis. James was a graduate of Danville High School. He was the owner and operator of Lewis and Co. Sand and Gravel, off of Perrysville Road at Lewis Road, for several years until he retired in 1983. James was a charter member and past president of Double I Gem and Mineral Society. He was a member of Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #38, Scottish rite valley of Danville, York Rite Bodies, and OES Irish Chapter. He was a 50 year member in the shrine consistory and actively participated in the degrees. James was a lifetime member of the Vermilion County Museum Society and served as a past member of the board of directors. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and collecting different things. A celebration of the life of James Ransom Lewis will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Rev. Miles Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in James name to the Vermilion County Museum Society.
