James S. Hobbs

James Sylvester Hobbs, 80, of Danville, passed away at 9:17 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. James was born on June 17, 1924 in Danville, the son of Alva and Bessie (Marrow) Hobbs. He married Beverly Jean Strader Hobbs on January 1, 1946 in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by 2 sons- Mick (Pris) Hobbs of Sidell, Illinois and Robin Hobbs of Danville; 3 daughters- Connie Miller of Mattoon, Illinois, Gloria (Chip) Browning of Springhill, Florida, and Diana Penny (Wes) Burriss of Danville; 10 grandchildren- Josh Burriss of Danville, Jesse (Kristy) Techtow of Danville, Chip Browning of Springhill, Florida, Heather (Taylor) Burbank of Springhill, Florida, Timmy Browning of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Melissa (Stephen) Browning of Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Angie (Brett) Larsen of Fowler, Indiana, Richard Miller of Chicago, Illinois, Micki Ann (Brian) Guthrie of Sidell, Illinois, and Eric (Remy) Hobbs of Scottsdale, Arizona; 12 great-grandchildren- Allison Larsen, Natalie Larsen, Stephen Browning, Alyssa Browning, Justin Browning, Miriah Guthrie, Shelby Guthrie, Hannah Guthrie, Brandon Burbank, Brianna Burbank, Madyson Techtow, Derick Ryan Hobbs; 7 sisters- Barbara Zumwalt of Champaign, Illinois, Alta Powell of Danville, Lucille Hobbs of Danville, Shirley Reffett of Danville, Dorothy Edinger of Danville, Betty (Don) Duffy of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Ann (Jim) Nixon of Danville; 1 aunt- Isabelle Workman of Danville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother- Dick Robison, 1 sister- Hazel Proctor, and one infant brother. James worked at General Motors for 28 years and retired in 1985. He was given an award for never missing any days at General Motors. James was a member of the Army from 1942-1945. He served as a M.P. in Europe during WWII. He was a Baptist by faith. He was a member of the VFW in Danville. He enjoyed reading western novels. He also loved his farm animals. James was a very hard worker and loved his family. He enjoyed telling stories and enjoyed watching birds. James also loved to go and watch the stock car races.
