Dr. James "Jim" Russell Esgar RPH, 64, of Danville, went to be with his Lord and savior at 11:23 a.m. Monday, July 30th, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. Jim was born on June 12th, 1948, in Morris, Illinois, the son of Charles Henry and Carolyn Estelle (Jewett) Esgar. He married Sandy Lamb on June 1st, 2010, at the Vineyard Church in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by one son- Ben Esgar of Effingham; one daughter- Jenna Esgar of Effingham; one step-son- Dustin (Rachael) Sinkes of Vass, North Carolina; three brothers- John W. (Kathy) Esgar of Ely, Minnesota, Daniel C. (Sandy) Esgar of Lafayette, Indiana and Ralph W. (Cheri) Esgar of Champaign; two sisters- Lu Ann (Joseph) Victor of Tuscola and Adele Shafer of Arcola; three step- granddaughters- Jaden Sinkes of Vass, North Carolina and Kaylee Lamb and Khloe McDonald of Hazelwood, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-son- Brandon Lamb, and one nephew- Jeff Esgar. Jim graduated from Mazon Township High School in 1966. He graduated from University of Illinois-Chicago, where he earned his pharmacy degree and later graduated from Peoria School of Medicine, with his medical degree in family practice. After graduating from Peoria School of Medicine, he went to Africa and worked as a medical doctor for a Methodist Mission Board. He later worked at Eastern University and McKinley Health Services as a physician for Student Health Services. He most recently worked as a Clinical Pharmacist at the VA Illiana Healthcare in Danville, until he retired in 2011. He was a member of the Vineyard Church in Danville. He was also a member of the American Medical Association. Jim enjoyed watching sports and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He also enjoyed running, listening to gospel music, working in his yard and spending time with his children and his soul mate- Sandy. A Celebration of the life of Dr. James "Jim" Russell Esgar RPH will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 3rd, 2012 at the Vineyard Church 3733 Poolside Drive Danville, Illinois 61832, with Pastor Jay Sorrell officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois 61834. Jim's wishes were to be cremated and following cremation he will be laid to rest in Oakridge Cemetery in Catlin. Memorials may be made to the Vineyard Church or to Provena Hospice.
