James Russell Coons

DANVILLE - James Russell “Jim” Coons, 67, of Danville passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Born October 1, 1946 in Danville, he was the son of Elmer Leverne and Alive Mae (Smith) Coons. On November 20, 1965 he married Judith Jones in Danville. They later divorced. Jim was an independent contractor for most of his working career, installing windows, insulation and siding. He was an avid sportsman, being a member of the Westville Sportsmen Club and the National Rifle Association. Jim loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed playing cards. He loved the quality time he spent with family and friends. Survivors include one daughter, Joanie (Tim) Farren of Sidell; one brother, John (Peggy) Coons of Tilton; two grandchildren, Levi and Lucas Farren of Sidell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eddy Coons; and two sisters, Lavern Haun and Barbara Jean Coons. A service to celebrate Jims life will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28th at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Sunset Funeral Home following services. Memorials have been established for American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
