James R. Mitchell Danville- Jim Mitchell, 66, of Danville passed away at 6:36 pm on Tuesday November 19, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Jim was born June 18, 1947 in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of the late Robert and Mabel (Vaughn) Mitchell. Survivors include one nephew, Anthony (Amy) Stephen of Newburgh, IN; two nieces, Stephanie (Kelly) Scott of Casey, IL and Kathy (Dustin) Smith of Louisville, IL; Eight great nieces and nephews, Alaina Stephen, Allyson Stephen, Austin Stephen, Baylee Scott, Quintin Scott, Savannah Scott, Laila Smith, and Maura Smith. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Mitchell. Jim went to school at Illinois State University where he worked on his bachelors degree and later attended the University of Illinois to get his masters degree. Jim worked at North Ridge Middle School and at the Administration Building for District 118. He finished his career at The Alternative High School. A Celebration of Jims life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 4:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Officiating services will be Raymie Gordon. Burial will be in Mackinaw Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the funeral home. Jims family asked that memorials be directed to Danville public schools.
