James R. Anderson, 69, of Danville, passed away at 2:20pm, Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was born on December 24, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois the son of Edward and Dorothea {Harris} Anderson. He was united in marriage to Lynn Dilts on December 6, 1973. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by his children, Nicole (Todd) Di Carlo of Valparaiso, IN and Kathy Anderson of Danville, IL; his grandchildren, Justin Richards, Jordan Richards, Ashley Dettlaff, Aidan Di Carlo, Autumn Di Carlo & Harley Kowal; and many nieces & nephews. James spent his childhood in Oaklawn, IL, and then served that community as a police officer for 20 years. He also worked for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and was a member of the United Nations International Police Task Force in Bosnia after their civil war. He later served as the Chief of Morton College Police Department in Cicero, IL. James was Chair of the Criminal Justice Education Program at Illinois Technical Institute. Most recently, he served as a board member for the Vermilion County War Museum. James loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was known to be a father and mentor to many and will be remembered by all whose lives he touched. Private family services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Westville, Illinois 414 S State St. Westville, Illinois 61883. A celebration of his life with family, friends, and community will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville.
