James (Tom) Pierce, Jr., 63, of Danville, passed away at 1:47 am on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tom was born July 28, 1943 in Danville, Illinois, the son of James T. Pierce, Sr. and Annetta (Martin) Pierce. He married Wilda I. Basinger on March 20, 1963 in Danville. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Stacey (Vickie) Pierce of Radcliff, Kentucky, Tommy Pierce of Pomona, California, and Jason T. (Jodi) Pierce of Danville, Illinois, and one daughter, Tammy Crawford of Bourbonnais, Illinois; five grandsons, Jeremy, Joseph, Cameron, Flynn, and Morgan, and one granddaughter, Taylor, one brother, three sisters and special friends, Howie and Mary Montgerard. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Tom worked and retired as an iron worker and was a member of Union Local 380. He served in the United States Navy from 1961-1964. He was proud to have served with the Navy Seabees. He was an avid outdoorsman. He liked to fish, watch racing and sporting events and enjoyed classic automobiles. Most of all, he loved his family and friends, especially cooking for them. A private family celebration of Toms life will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Timothy Wright officiating. Public visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Springhill Cemetery in Danville, Illinois with military honors.
