James H. Owens, 82, of Danville, passed this Life Sunday evening, June 13, 2010 at the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Danville. He was born on January 8, 1928, in Vernon, Louisiana, the son of Grady and Gracie (Poole) Owens. On September 18, 1948, Jim married Betty Nale. She survives along with their three children, Jeff (Lynnette) Owens of Danville, Jim Owens of Oakwood, and Joyce (Ben) Moore of Danville. His five grandchildren, five great children, one great-great grandson, two brothers, Donald Owens, and Bobby (Renafaye) Owens, both of Louisiana, three sisters, Linda, Hollean, and Rita, all of Louisiana, and his sister-in-law, Jules Owens, also of Louisiana, survive Jim. His parents, one brother, Alfred, and one sister, Laverne, preceded Jim in death. Jim was a United States Army veteran, and later, owned and operated Jims Auto Body Shop in Danville until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of the EAA (Experienced Aircraft Association), and the Masonic Anchor Lodge #980 of Danville. He enjoyed building experimental airplanes where he took first place building his Tailwind Experimental Airplane. Jim also enjoyed off-road motorcycles, flying aircraft, and tinkering with various projects. A Celebration of the Life of James H. Owens will began at 2:00pm on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Officiating: Pastor James Blue. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday with Masonic Rites at the funeral Home.
