James O. Bracken

James O. Bracken, of Danville, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 28, 1933, and was the son of Harold B. and Onda R. Bracken. He married Sandra Peters on July 12, 1954 in Danville, IL. Preceding James in death include his wife Sandra, both parents, four brothers, and two sisters. James is survived by one sister, Nancy (Gregoire) Strader, two brothers, Mickey (Mary Lou) Gregoire and Phillip Bracken; three daughters, Terry (Mike) Herron, Jaime (Rick) Dobbles, and Jackie (Craig) Young; grandchildren, Courtney (Dale) Hemker, Jeremy (Nagi) Hill, Marissa (John) Cabaj, Justin (D Marie) Dobbles, Lindsay Schreck, Stephani Young and Taylor Young; along with five great-grandchildren, Dillon and Dane Hemker, T.S. Hill, Lincoln and Milo Schreck; and longtime family friend, Fred Mallory. James was a graduate of Schlarman High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He was an avid auto-racing fan and involved his whole family in collecting Jeff Gordon memorabilia. He loved traveling, keeping his yard tidy, testing his luck on slot machines, a good cup of coffee, and could eat ice cream for every meal. Most of all, James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His energetic spirit and silly antics will be missed dearly by the people who loved him. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Rebekah Cronkhite. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 8:30 to 10 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation.
