James Norman Ross

James Norman Ross, 83, of Georgetown, passed away at 4:11am, Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at his home. He was born the son of Roy and Almira {Ray} Ross in Humrick, IL, on March 7, 1934. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Hughes on March 22, 1963, in Georgetown. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his children, Dr. Michael (Becky) Mills, Terry (Debbie) Mills, David (Gayle) Ross, Danny (Teresa) Ross, Roy (Kelly) Ross, James Scott (Lori) Ross, & Cathy (Jeremiah) Christian; his daughter-in-law, Yvonne Mills; his twenty grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; his brother, Omer Ross; his sister, Clara Pitts; and countless extended family. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his son, Brian Mills; his brother, Sam Ross; and his sister, Jane White. Norman retired from General Motors Tilton Foundry after 43 years of service. While working, Jim, as he was known at the Foundry, received many awards for innovations he inspired. With one of the awards, Norman used the money to buy his sons each a bicycle. He was mechanically inclined and very resourceful when working around his house or in the "shed". Most days, he could be found tinkering around in his shed where he kept many reminders of memories through the years. He loved mowing his yard, especially when he discovered zero-turn technology. He attended the First Church of Christ in Georgetown and enjoyed going to Church. Norman was a strong man who was very devoted to his family and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Norman's life will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown, with Phil Miller officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, March 24, 2017, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Forest Park Cemetery, Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in his name to Carle Hospice.
