James Murdock

James Murdock, born on January 25, 1964, in Danville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, with his family by his side. He was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, and friend, known for his warm spirit and zest for life.

Jim was a proud class member of Georgetown High School, Class of 1982. He served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Saratoga CV60 for four years, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and camaraderie. After his time in the service, he worked as a Fabricator at Ogden Metal, contributing to his community through his skills and dedication.

His personal life was filled with cherished moments spent alongside his loved ones. Jim was married to the love of his life, Sheila (Huber) Murdock, with whom he shared a profound love and partnership. He is survived by his daughters, Lindsee (Jordan) Decker of Danville and Valerie (Gary) Cosat of Westville, along with stepson Chad (Lisa) Rossiter of Villa Grove, Sister Paula (Larry) Thompson of Georgetown, and Daughter-in-law Tash Rossiter of Lodi, Indiana. They, along with his nine beautiful grandchildren and  three great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, will remember him fondly for his infectious laughter and for the joy he brought to their lives.

Jim was a dedicated member of the Westville American Legion Post 51 and the American Legion Riders, where he fostered friendships and support among fellow veterans. His hobbies reflected his generous spirit; he truly enjoyed life and embraced every moment with enthusiasm.

In addition to his surviving family, James was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Sharon (Wyer) Murdock; his brother, Kenneth Murdock; nephew, Clay Thompson; great niece, Ella Thompson; and stepson, Bruce Rossiter Sr. Their memories will be cherished within the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Visitation on October 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center's Urbas Chapel, located at 414 S State St, Westville, IL 61883. In honor of Jim's vibrant personality, guests are encouraged to dress casually and wear their Harley Davidson attire. Burial will follow with military rights at McKendree Cemetery. James Murdock will be forever remembered for his love of family, his warmth, and the special mark he left upon everyone who had the privilege to know him. His spirit will undoubtedly continue to inspire those around him.
