James Monfredini

James Lyndell Monfredini, 68, of Danville, passed away at 9:58pm on Monday September 12, 2016. Jim was born the son of James R. and Pansy L. Monfredini on April 30, 1948. Jim grew up in Orient, Illinois. On August 11, 1973 he and his wife, Phyllis A. (Britch) Monfredini were married at St. Mary's Church in Westville, IL. Jim is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Kyla (Jason) Hotsinpiller of Danville; son, Tyson Monfredini of Santa Marinella, Italy; grandchildren, Jaren and Josie Hotsinpiller; sister, Donna Clendenin of Chester, IL; nephew, Curt Clendenin of Belleville, IL; and mother-in-law, Florence Britch. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Earl Britch; and brother-in-law, Leonard Clendenin. Jim was a graduate of The University of Illinois in 1971 with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Education and in 1976 with a Master's Degree in Education. He received his Specialist Endorsement from Eastern Illinois University. Jim taught Industrial Education (woodworking and drafting) for 14 years at Catlin High School and served as the Director/Planner for the Vermilion Vocational Education Delivery System for one year. In 1986 he assumed the position of Principal of St. Mary's Grade School in Westville. He went on to hold the position of Principal of St. Paul's School and Schlarman High School, Danville. He worked for two years as an agent with County Companies Insurance, then returned to St. Mary's as Principal before assuming the position of Superintendent/Principal of Braceville Elementary School District, Braceville, Illinois in Grundy County. Jim loved teaching and guiding students in every aspect of education. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, volunteering with Prison Ministry at Danville Correctional Center and St. Vincent de Paul Society. He enjoyed volunteering at Presence USMC as a Red Vest. He had also volunteered as a mentor to students at DHS. He was a member of Knights of Columbus. Jim's hobbies include carpentry and woodworking, traveling to Italy, his ancestral home and most of all spending time with his two grandchildren, Jaren and Josie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday September 17, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville. Officiating will be Reverend Steven Loftus. Visitation will be Friday September 16, 2016 from 4PM to 8PM at Sunset Funeral Home at 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made to Holy Family Church and St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o Holy Family Church.
