James Lee Garrett

James Lee Garrett, 77, of Danville, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at his residence. He was born on September 30, 1933, in Laddonia, Missouri, the son of Stewart and Clara (Pasley) Garrett. On November 13, 1960, Jim married Marie Victoria Marandola in the Bronx, New York. He is survived by his wife Marie of almost 50 years, and their three children, James Lee Garrett Jr. of Georgetown, Michael Wayne (Hope) Garrett and Maria Lisa Garrett, both of Danville. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Christina Marie, Robert James, Elizabeth Ann-Marie, Danielle Renee, Emily Marie, and a grandson that is due in January. He is also survived by his four sisters, Dorothy, Thelma, Effie, and Martha, all of Missouri, two sisters-in-law, Lucy Drake of Danville, and Esther (Gasper) Barcia of New York. Two brothers-in-law, Benny (Carole) Marandola, and Tony (Joyce) Marandola of Connecticut. His parents, step-mother, and his 10 brothers and sisters preceded James in death. James was a proud member of the military, enlisting in the United States Army, serving overseas, during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Staff Sergeant after 24 years of service. After being honorably discharged, James was employed with Berkley-Davis working as an electrician, until retiring in January 1991. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching old movies, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. As per his familys wishes, cremation rites will be performed at Sunsets onsite crematory under the immediate direction of Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. Per the familys wishes, no visitation or services will be scheduled. Inurnment will take place at 2:00pm on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors by the Danville American Legion Post #210.
