James Archer Lawhorn, 71, of Danville, passed away at 2:50 A.M., Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the VA Illiana Health Care System. He was born May 28, 1937 in Danville, the son of James I. and Frances (May) Lawhorn. He married Linda Heidrick on December 12, 1992 in Danville. She survives. Other survivors includes nine children; Sharon (Rod) Fancil of Potomac, Julie (Jeff) Myers of Cayuga, IN, Laura (Brad) Hill of Danville, Mark Jumps of Kentucky, Henry (JR) (Connie) Ewing of Danville, April Sherwood of Missouri, Jim (Kathy) Lawhorn of Covington, IN, David (Michelle) Lawhorn of Ridge Farm and Randy (Priscilla) Lawhorn of Junctions City, KS, one brother, Jerry (Sandy) Lawhorn of Danville, three sisters, Sharon (Bob) Gillis of Danville and Sandy Divan of Danville and Arlene (Larry) Bennett of Kentland, IN, special uncle, Dale (Jackie) Sparrow of Texas, 23 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews special friends, Paul Boswell, Dick Schultz, Junior and Kim Irwin, Max Heidrick and Andrea Baines. His parents, one son, Bobby Joe Lawhorn, and one sister, Connie Whitted, preceded him in death James retired from the United States Navy in 1975, as a Petty Officer 1st Class. He served in a Mobile Riverine Unit in the Mekong Delta during Vietnam. He was former member of the Danville Masonic Olive Branch Lodge. He had worked at Hyster, Danville Mass Transit, and Illini Swallow. James enjoyed fishing, yachting,, and watching the Blue Angels. He also enjoyed going out to eat with his family. Jim truly loved spending time with his grandchildren. He never knew a stranger and was an avid Cubs and Bears Fan. A celebration of life for James A. Lawhorn will be held at 10:00 a. m. on Monday, September 15, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Steve Rutter officiating. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2008 and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2008, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Jims name to the Special Olympics Illinois, 605 East Willow Street, Normal, IL 61761
