James K. Boateng, 74, of Danville, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, August 11th, 2011 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. James was born on July 8th, 1937, in Ghana, West Africa, the son of Kwadwo and Afua (Ataa) Boateng. James is survived by a daughter - Lisa Lynette Boateng of San Francisco, California; a Brother - Samuel Boateng of Ghana, West Africa; and a sister - Juliana Boateng of Ghana, West Africa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. At birth James was given the name Kofi Atta Kena Boateng. Kofi means "male born on Friday", Atta means "twin male", and Kena is his grandfather's name. At the age of 10 he was baptized and given the Christian name James. As a young man, James came to the United States where he attended and graduated from Puget Sound Christian College in Seattle, WA and Lincoln Christian Seminary, in Lincoln, IL. He served as a minister in Seattle, Washington, Springfield, Peoria, Champaign, and Danville. James became a member of Second Church of Christ in 1988. He faithfully served as a greeter and in recent years as the church's Care Minister. As Care Minister, he provided care and encouragement to the sick and shut-ins in area hospitals and nursing homes. James touched many lives and will be remembered for his Christ like love, care, gentleness, humility, compassion, and servant hood. James will be greatly missed! A celebration and memorial service for James will be held Sunday, August 21st, at 6:00 pm at the Second Church of Christ, 3350 E Voorhees St., Danville, IL.
