James “Jim” Wood, 82, of Danville went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 12, 2025 at 5:54 AM.
Jim was born on October 1, 1942 in Richmond, IN the son of Robert and Irene (Rust) Wood. He married Debra Powell on November 19, 1982 in Danville, IL and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Wood of Danville, IL his children, Lisa (Jamie) Mohler of Frankfort, IN, Rob (Jennifer) Wood of Frankfort, IN and Pete (Kristi) Powell of Danville, IL, nine grandchildren, Meisha (Grayson) Puckett, Isaac (Katie) Wood, Christian (Alli) Mohler, Kiara Wood, Trey and Ari Mohler, and Doug Wood, Conner Powell, Brielle Powell, and three great grandchildren, Grayson Puckett Jr, Shae Mohler and Da’Ziyah Mohler with two more on the way. Jim is also survived by his siblings, John Wood of West Palm Beach, FL and Dawn (Ray) Spivey of Port St. Lucie, FL as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Tiffany Wood, and siblings, Roberta Wood, Joseph Wood and Steve Wood.
Jim was a member of the Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL and was a real estate developer until his retirement in 2022. He was a commercial realtor with Fleming, Weller & Wood for 10 years and then Norrick, Morrow, & Wood for another 6 years. He then joined SES Properties to develop and manage the Danville Village Mall. His career culminated as VP of Site Acquisitions for Cedarwood in Akron, OH where he focused on developing CVS locations. He was a member of Vermilion Advantage, actively involved with StepUp, and served on the Fischer Theater and the Woman’s Care Clinic boards. Jim enjoyed hosting Quest Bible Studies at his home with his wife Debra to minister to youth. He was Sunday School Superintendent at the Danville Alliance Church for many years, started a bus ministry, and was well known for his magic shows and ventriloquism with his sidekick Tex. He enjoyed traveling on family vacations, playing card and board games (especially family Euchre tournaments) and was an avid sports fan of NFL, UFC and college football.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Second Church of Christ, 3350 East Voorhees Street, Danville, Illinois 61834. Greg Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the church.
Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be made in Jim’s memory to Woman’s Care Clinic or the Fischer Theater, both located in Danville, IL.
