James Walsh, 54, of Potomac, IL passed away Saturday at 10:35 PM on November 15, 2025 at the Illiana Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Danville, IL.
Jim was born in Urbana, IL the son of James W. and Linda S. (Lincicome) Walsh. He married Molly Burdette on February 10, 2022 in Urbana, IL and she survives.
Other survivors include three children, Kyle Walsh (33) of Washington state, Reagan (17) and Ari (14) Walsh of Mahomet, IL. Jim had three older siblings, Lori (David) Scholl of Hobe Sound, FL, Debbi (Jeffrey) Simmon of Inverness, IL and Jamie (Fred) Jones of Bloomington, IL as well as his mother and father-in-law, Marcella and Marlyn Burdette of Rantoul, IL along with several nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
After serving in the United States Navy, Jim worked as a boilermaker out of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 1 Union Chicago. He enjoyed spending his free time hunting, woodworking and spending time with his wife and family.
Private family services will be held and Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements. Jim will be laid to rest eternally at the National Cemetery at the Illiana VA in Danville, Illinois. A burial ceremony and celebration of life will commence in the spring of 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute or Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital at Northwestern Memorial in Chicago, or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
