James Jim Phillip Duez, 75, of Danville, passed away at 9:25am, Thursday, July 16, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was born December 1, 1933, the son of Clement and Nora Isabell (Stephens) Duez. He married Shirley J. LaMar on April 28, 1954, in Grape Creek, IL. He is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Shirley and six children, Brenda Atwood, John Duez, Robert Duez, Teresa Carrigan, Jack (Sue) Duez, & Eva Duez. He is also survived by: his sister, Adele Delattre; his brother, Donald (Joann) Duez; his two sisters-in-law, Joan Rivers & Phyllis Stonebraker; and his brother-in-law, Jack LaMar. Jim is survived by his 8 grandchildren, Tracy Atwood, Melissa (Jason) Sandlin, Kristina Carrigan, Roy Carrigan, Joshua Carrigan, Amanda Crawford, Bobbie Jo (Kenny) Sapp, & Justin (Karen) Duez. Also surviving are his 13 great grandchildren, Taylor Rangel, Mikaela Rangel, Jason Sandlin, Jeremy Sandlin, Elizabeth Sandlin, Isabella Sandlin, Alexis Carrigan, Michael Carrigan, Jennifer Carrigan, Braeden Sapp, Kaitlyn Sapp, Hannah Duez, & Hayleigh Duez. Jim was preceded in death by: his parents, Clement & Isabell; his in-laws, Clyde & Eva LaMar; two sisters; seven brothers; one son-in-law, William Lee Atwood; and one step-grandson, Travis Crawford. He retired from CCL Aerosol Industries in 1998. He enjoyed mowing fairways at Blue Needles Golf Course for nine years. He loved golfing, camping, country music concerts, long rides in the country, and watching his great grandchildrens ball games. A celebration of Jims life will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown. Johnny Henderson will be officiating. Visitation will be 4p-8p, Monday, July 20, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Georgetown Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in his name to American Cancer Society or Carle Hospice.
