James "Jim" Perry, a devoted family man and a retired employee of Kraft Foods, passed away suddenly on January 10, 2026, in Urbana, Illinois. Born on July 24, 1957, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, Jim was known for his very social personality, which endeared him to many throughout his life.
Jim cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to his beloved spouse, Teresa, for an impressive 45 years. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and numerous adventures. Jim took great pride in his family, which consisted of his son, William Lester, and daughter, Brandi (Scott) Clemens. He was a doting grandfather to Makayla (Wayne) Jordan, Haylee (Dustin) Broga, and Max Clemens, and a devoted great-grandfather to Abigail, Abby, Christian, Ava, Michael, Zoey, Mackayle, Mason, and Ryker.
Jim was a passionate sports fan, faithfully supporting the St. Louis Cardinals and the Illini. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, partaking in camping and fishing. Traveling with his family brought him much joy, as did the precious moments spent with his grandchildren.
He is also remembered as a friend of Bill W., which reflects his commitment to supporting others and fostering relationships within his community.
Jim is survived by his loving family, including his siblings: William (Bonnie) Perry, David Perry, and Susie (Gary) Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Ersie (Gaines) Perry, as well as siblings, Dan, Dewaine, Bev, Tootie, Gene, Allen, and Rose Marie.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Champaign, Illinois.710 N. Neil St. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM, also at the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bongard, Illinois, at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Jim's name to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital or the Daniel Perry Scholarship Fund at Parkland College.
Jim's larger-than-life spirit and unwavering love for his family and friends will be dearly missed, but his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
