James 'Jim' L. Hughes

Gessie, Ind. - James 'Jim' L. Hughes, 75, of Gessie passed away at 8:47 p.m. EST Saturday, February 6, 2021 at his home.

He was born June 19, 1945 in Danville, Illinois, son of the late Harold M. and Mary (Gibson) Hughes. He married Rosemary Wallace on July 25, 1965 at the Gessie United Methodist Church and she survives.

Other survivors include his daughter: Jamie Lynn Hughes of Gessie, Indiana; his best buddy and grandson: Kade Samuel Hughes; special nephew: William Wallace; and one sister-in-law: Diane Hughes of Gessie, Indiana. Jim was preceded in death by three brothers: Samuel G. Hughes, Harold Kent Hughes and Chris Martin Hughes; a nephew: Norman Dale Hughes and a niece: Crystal Anderson.

Jim was a railroad trainman for 35 years. He was a 1963 graduate of Perrysville High School and a member of the Gessie United Methodist Church. Jim enjoyed reading and watching Cubs baseball, Indiana University basketball, and the Chicago Bears.

Funeral Service: 1 p.m. EST Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Ken Green; Burial: Hopewell Cemetery in Gessie, Indiana. Visitation: 11 a.m. EST until time of services Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the funeral home. Per the state guidelines, face masks are required to enter the funeral home and social distancing will be observed. Contributions may be made to the Gessie United Methodist Church, 1549 West 1350 North Gessie, Indiana 47974. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is honored to be caring for the family.
