James 'Jim' E. Ping

James Jim Edward Ping, 85, of Danville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman. Jim was born on June 28, 1925, in Marshfield, Indiana, the son of John T. and Eva (Williams) Ping. He married Martha Elizabeth Vance on December 24th, 1944, in Danville. She preceded him in death in 1972. He is survived by two daughters- Sharon (Lee) Engle of Tilton, Illinois and Connie Madden of Danville, Illinois; son- Gary J. Ping of Danville; two brothers- Thomas Ping of Canton, Ohio and Lee Ping of Danville, Illinois; seven sisters- Fay Huppert of Danville, Virginia, Eva Haskins of Urbana, Illinois, June Niccum of Covington, Indiana, Jean Bell of Danville, Illinois, Eldora Allen of Taylor, Michigan, Kay Chase of Ohio and April Ping of Danville, Illinois; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, half brother-Benny Ping and a sister- Edna Mae Huppert. Jim worked at Hyster in Danville, until he retired. He enjoyed racing and announcing races. He also enjoyed reading, fishing and baseball. A Celebration of the Life of James Jim Edward Ping will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 17th, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor Karl Marshall officiating. Burial will follow the service in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
