James Dorsey Jim' Hecker, 52, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 19, 2012. He was born September 3, 1959, to James C. and Marilyn (Hughes) Hecker in Danville, IL. They preceded him in death. He is survived by: his dear friend, Fran; his sister, Bess (Ron) Huls; brother-in-law, Paul (Karen) Nipper; niece, Jennifer (Jake) Heidrick; nephews, Adam Huls, Danny (Shannon) Nipper, Ryan and Troy Nipper; great-nephews, Bradley Heidrick and Nathan Nipper; great-nieces, Kalyn and Addisyn Nipper, all of Danville; and a son, James Daniel Hecker of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are many friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathy Hecker and Virginia Sue Nipper. He graduated from Bismarck-Henning High School in 1978 and enlisted in the US Navy and served until 1986. During this time he traveled and was stationed in all parts of the world. He served on the USS Ashtabula, USS John F. Kennedy, and USS California. He was also a Seabee and qualified as an expert marksman. Jim attended DACC after his service. He worked and lived many different places throughout his life. Recently, many may have heard him yelling "Downer, Downer!" on the corner in town holding a sign for This Is It Furniture, a job which he loved. Jim was saved on May 18, 1985 and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tilton. He loved spreading the Gospel and witnessing to others. He recently gave his testimony on WGNJ 89.3 which you can listen to on their website http://www.greatnewsradio.org/?page_id=2380. Even though he was battling cancer, he praised God and encouraged others on a daily basis. Jim's family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, food, and visits. We would also like to thank the staff at the VA Hospital in Indianapolis and Big Mike, Shane, and employees of This Is It Furniture. Per Jim's wishes, in lieu of flowers, he wanted memorials and donations made to the Indianapolis VA Medical Center or the Calvary Baptist Church in Tilton, IL. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Scott McCurdy & Joe Humrichous officiating. Visitation will be 4-8pm, Friday, June 22, 2012, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Allhands Cemetery, Oakwood.
