James 'Jim' C. Voss

Danville, IL James "Jim" Carl Voss, 75, of Danville passed away at 5:39 AM on Friday, June 23, 2023 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville. He was born on October 28, 1947 in Danville to Charles C. and Lilah E. (Denison) Voss. They preceded him in death. He married Sandy S. Carson on February 14, 1981 in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Tammy (Chris) Stewart of Potomac and Lori (Jerry) Green of Champaign; two step-sons, John (Stephanie) OBanion of Tilton and Daniel OBanion of Danville; four grandchildren, Ashlyn (Noah Schuler) Green, Abbie (Zach) Horatschki, Makayla Stewart, and Brady Stewart; step-grandchild, Heavenlee OBanion; great-granddaughter, Elaina; sister, Janet (Dale) Forster of PA; several nieces and nephews; and many, many special friends.

After graduating Potomac High School Jim served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He belonged to the 101st Airborne Division and the 159th Aviation Battalion. Jim primarily operated as a mechanic working on Chinook Helicopters. Because of his military service, he was also a longtime member of the Potomac American Legion #428 and served as Treasurer. Jim later went to Quaker Oats where he worked in Maintenance for 40 years. When it came to other hobbies, Jim only really had one; his lifelong love for the music of Cher.

A service to celebrate the life of Jim Voss will be held at 5 PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Randy Holden will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM prior to the service on Wednesday, also at Sunset in Danville. Military honors will be held at 1 PM inon Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville where he will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in Jims name or make a donation to the Potomac American legion Post #428.
