James Henry Strebin

Danville, IL - James Henry Strebin, 90, passed away at 7:35pm on December 30, 2017 at Colonial Manor in Danville. Jim was born on August 7, 1927 to Clayton and Ruby (Nowling) Strebin. He married Doris Seely on September 19, 1947 and later married Rose Daly Gonyo on November 23, 1990. He is preceded in death by his parents, both wives, his two sons, Jack and Dave, brother, Richard, step-mother, Mabel, step-father, Ray Norris, and step-son, Robby Gonyo. Jim will be sadly missed by his daughter-in-law, Rosemary, grandchildren, Kassie (Lou), Andy (Suzi), Kirk (Summer), and Kody, great-grandchildren, Mason, Clayton, Logan, and Colin, a brother, Larry, two step-daughters, Chrissie (Scott) and Carey (Roy), and step grand-grandchildren, Alan, Ashlyn (Ethan), Erin, and Evan. Jim served in the United States Navy SeaBees from 1945 to 1947. Following the military, he graduated from Danville High School and then went on to receive his degree from the American Bankers Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Jim worked for the Palmer Bank as Department Head for several years and from there was the Controller for the Commercial News. When his sons were young, Jim loved coaching their baseball teams and family vacations in Florida. Jim enjoyed spending time with friends, whether it was playing softball, bowling, golf, watching sports or catching up over a cup of coffee. He was a member of American Legion Post 210, the Danville VFW and Elks Lodge. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 1:00pm - 2:30pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61834. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30pm at the funeral home. Raymie Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Memorials may be made in Jim's name to the American Legion Post 210 or the American Cancer Society.
