James H. "Jim" Ellis

James H. “Jim” Ellis, 92, of Danville passed away at 8:36 PM on January 27, 2025 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville, IL.

Jim was born on August 25, 1932 the son of Harold and Mildred (Crawford) Ellis. He married Josephine Ann Flannery on January 29, 1952 in Watseka, IL and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2019.

Jim will be missed by his son, Anthony (Tamarra) Ellis of Catlin, IL, his grandchildren, Addison (Mariel) Ellis of Acworth, GA and Blaine (Jennifer Alix) Ellis of Springfield, MA as well as one great grandchild, Harper Ellis and two brothers, Dwight (Lynn) Ellis of Danville, IL and Alan Ellis of Danville, IL.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Josephine Ellis, one son, Rodney Ellis and two siblings, Jerry Ellis and Marjorie Harden.

Jim was a member of the Batestown United Methodist Church and served as the Vermilion County School District Superintendent and later as the Superintendent for Oakwood School District 76. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and gardening. Jim was a man who cared for our children and was a firm believer that all children can learn. 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Patti Wise will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Jim’s memory to the Batestown United Methodist Church.
